boys & girls, believe it or not... years ago, ceramic plate
manufacturers thought it was a good idea to add Uranium Oxide to the
ceramic glaze that covered their dinner plates. It did make a bright
orange attractive color, but it also made them pretty damn radioactive.
They have long since stopped making these ( Uranium is no longer
permitted on your dinnerware ), but we do have quite a few on hand that
we've collected over the years.
They
all measure between 6,000 CPM and 8,000 CPM.
They are safe to handle, but do not eat off of them. Foods with a
high acid content tend to leach the Uranium compounds out of the
glaze... and eating Uranium is generally a bad thing.
Great collectors items, and guaranteed to increase in value every year.
Some of these date back to the late 1930s.
Color & style will vary from plate to plate (some have small indents
in them for coffee cups), but they are all basically the same.
